Well hello there. The good news for today is, “The Song of the Dentist.”
Who would have thought there could be a song in the dentist chair- of all places!
I opened my mouth. The dentist placed the drill against my front tooth. The small tool began to vibrate in the hole a filling had fallen out of. What to my wondering ears was released? A merry tune that brought delight to my heart rather than a pain in my mouth. How in the world did that happen?
I’m a grandma, with a lot of years behind me. One of the things I have learned in life, is to recognize I can decide to make the best of a situation I find myself in. When I was younger, I would be nervous and unhappy about something I had no control over. When my mother would remind me, “this too shall pass,” I would just get crabby, because I didn’t want to go through the experience I was facing. It didn’t matter, I still had to face the music that would produce. Through the decades, I have learned the wisdom of her statement.
Experience showed me, when I thought the worst about what I had to endure, I was miserable and anxious. I vented my frustration on the people closest to me. I began to develop the attitude of, “this too shall pass.” And surprise – surprise! It did. Maybe it was one week, one day, or one hour. But it passed. In the grand scheme of life, the moments are fly by and fall away.
I began to think, what would be better when this event was over? Would there be something I could learn? What might help another person? Even, what might God be saving me from or what was He preparing me for?
The song in the dentist chair, was a reminder of how music brings enjoyment and release to me. Music can help me move through a variety of situations with purpose.
“And this too shall pass,” sounds like it could come from the Bible, but it does not. Instead, the general thought is expanded upon by King Solomon in the Old Testament.
In Ecclesiastes we are told in chapter 3:1
“There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven.”
I am learning I can apply this concept to every situation. You never know when the song in your heart can move into your ear through the drill of a dentist. Blessings.
